Born In The Field, Made In Britain
This image represents the roots of JL-EQ—my role as a British Army soldier, proudly serving the Crown for over a decade and a half as a support weapons specialist. Alongside my military career, my passion for event riding and equestrian sport has given me a deep connection to the countryside and the demands of outdoor life.
What began as JL-EQ soon evolved into Lockwood: premium British smocks crafted for those who refuse to compromise on performance. The journey started with a mission to address a common problem across the military, country, and equestrian communities: waterproof garments made overseas that failed to perform as promised. Determined to make a change, I set out to create outerwear that is truly British-made, combining durability, functionality, and timeless design to thrive in the toughest conditions.
A Journey Of Craft And Purpose
JL-EQ began with a passion for creating innovative, British-made outerwear designed to perform in any environment. This image marks a pivotal moment in my journey—the first-ever sample of my neon camo smock, developed at Grade House in London. This initial design was inspired by a desire to blend practicality with style, tailored for equestrians and those influenced by the raw edge of music culture.
From this first prototype, JL-EQ now Lockwood Premium British Smocks, has grown into a brand that champions British craftsmanship, supporting the economy while serving military, field sports, and outdoor enthusiasts. Each smock tells its own story, rooted in heritage and built for adventure.
A Tribute To Britain’s Heritage
As JL-EQ evolved into Lockwood premium British smocks, I wanted each design to carry a story—a tribute to the communities and landscapes that inspired them. The first in the series was the Brecon Smock, created with the soldiers I’ve proudly served alongside in mind. Inspired by the rugged terrain of the Brecon Beacons, where resilience and reliability are paramount, this smock embodies the commitment to performance and quality that defines Lockwood premium British smocks.
Evolution Of Lockwood Premium British Smocks
Lockwood premium British smocks continued to evolve, drawing inspiration from Britain’s rich military and sporting heritage. The Arnhem Smock pays homage to the iconic maroon colours of the Parachute Regiment, symbolising bravery and precision. Meanwhile, the Churchill Smock honours both the legendary British gunmaker and Winston Churchill himself—a figure deeply connected to the military and a passionate advocate for field sports.
Each smock in the Lockwood range carries a legacy, blending timeless design with unmatched functionality, crafted for those who live and work in Britain’s most demanding environments.
